Harvey is back!!!

The update you’ve all been waiting for is finally here – joyfully, the old chap is back with us and firing on all 10 cylinders (yep he is a V10).  Despite recent news saying it would be next week at the earliest, the call came in around lunch time today.  So I write this blog as we excitedly sit on a train to the Midlands for a reunion with our mate. 

To be honest it took a little while for the news to sink in but once it did, we noticed each other’s mood improve out of sight.  I don’t think we realised how much the lack of a Harvey had been weighing on us both, just the unknown and lack of future certainty.

From here the adventure is back on!!!  This weekend is an overdue visit to our friends in Newport, then back in the other direction for a ferry sailing to France on Tuesday.  It’s no understatement to say we’re rapt to be resuming our ‘Adventures WITH Harvey’!

The last couple of days in London have been lovely, ticking off the final few big-ticket items.  Both of us had been to the Tower of London before but not for 20 or so years so it was great to be back.  The Beefeater tour was such a hoot, they really bring the history to life.  Hard to believe that the white tower (the original structure in the middle) was built in the 1070’s by William the Conqueror!  After the tower, a visit to the National Gallery was the final stop on our list – such a treat to see Turners, Constables, Van Goghs, and Monets among many others.  You really wonder how they painted on canvasses so large and how the colours have survived so well, often for many hundreds of years.

The last night in town was spent at the musical ‘Six’ which gave a modern and humorous take on the six wives of Henry VIII.  On the way we stumbled across Mr Fogg’s Society of Exploration cocktail bar.  Downstairs, it was themed as a tribute to the Jules Verne character bearing the same name… and an absolute treat!

Mission Accomplished On the 25 th of March 2022 somewhere above the Indian Ocean I penned the first post for Adventures with Harvey.  Today I sit here at Heathrow Airport more than 19 months and 65 blog posts later… and we’re finally at the end.  It’s rather emotional really, hard to believe it’s all over but also with a tremendous sense of anticipation at the thought of arriving home to see our friends & family, the country and home that we love so much. Winding up and winding down! Greetings one and all and welcome once again to this exciting edition of Adventures with Harvey.  As we approach the end of this epic adventure we are motivated to make the most of every moment, to soak it all in… to be present.  The last couple of weeks have been extremely social, thankfully a little less driving, and of course a couple of rugby games thrown in for good measure.  So grab a beverage of your choice and settle in for the latest report. Our few days at Saint-Maxime were filled with the most excellent company, some of it expected and some a delightful surprise.  Our first visitor was Nina, our good friend from New Zealand who was unexpectedly nearby due to a family bereavement – for some reason in England it takes 2-3 weeks between someone’s passing and their funeral so Nina had a few spare days during which she happily decided to track us down.  We’ve had the most agreeable weather these last couple of weeks, mid-high 20’s each day and cle

  It’s Paris… and rugby!!! The excitement within Harvey was palpable as we made our way from our last stop in Orléans towards the big city of Paris and a date with destiny.  Yes, the All Blacks were fated for an almighty clash with Ireland, the number one team in the world, at Stade de France.  All our readers will by now know the outcome of that match however please allow us to tell the story and our time surrounding it from a first-hand account.  But before that… Orléans is a lovely town with a magnificent cathedral – most of these towns have something similar however this building would have to be right up there with the best of them.  Scale, grandeur, and magnificence with a cavernous & ornate interior – and from the outside, just breathtaking!  As we’ve done so many times before, we Woodies spent a few hours wandering the streets, checking out the riverfront and finishing up at a little bar in the main hospitality precinct.  Here we had cause to pause and reflect over a co
