Bike update – we are humbled and blown away!

As we sit here in Rouen licking our wounds and figuring out a plan going forward, we have been feeling so much love from our friends and family in NZ and elsewhere in the world.  Your comments and concern have been a huge comfort to us for sure.

We were sat completely on our backsides when one of our good friends here in the UK e-mailed with an amazingly generous offer.  He said that he and his partner were considering buying e-bikes although not for a year or 2.  He’s therefore offered to pay a large chunk of the cost of replacement bikes for us now, then they’ll be his when we’re finished with them.  Wow!

Then on top of that my brother Steve has very kindly put together a give-a-little page for some replacement bikes, obviously with a smaller amount now thanks to the offer above.  Double wow!

Both of these cause a huge variety of emotions for both Anita and me because we’ve never been the type of people to ask for help.  We feel uncomfortable even posting this blog.  However, Steve is correct, the loss of the bikes is a serious financial blow as we have very little income while we’re away overseas.

It's been a whirlwind! The last week has probably been the most intensive exploring of the holiday but it's been just awesome! Sunshine, Cerveza and Churros con chocolat! Or perhaps the title could be Malaga, Marbella and Morocco – there’s quite a lot to report since our last update so grab yourself a cuppa and buckle in for the ride! After Steve and Kelly headed back home we had to hang about in Sevilla because the much-needed laptop was yet to be delivered… so there was more exploring of Sevilla and surrounds to be done.  The main remaining item of interest was It á lica, an ancient Roman town built around 200BC about 7km from the current centre of Sevilla.  Many towns in this part of the world were built or inhabited by the Romans and often the remains are little more than an old pile of rocks to the untrained eye, however most Roman ruins don’t contain a remarkably well preserved 25000 seat amphitheatre!  What a magnificent edifice, just enormous with many tunnels, walkways and underground areas for gladiators, wild animals etc.  Not to say that the other ruins at It á lica weren’t i...

Navigators and Earthquakes Hands up who’s heard of Prince Henry the Navigator?  OK, let’s make it a bit easier… Who’s heard of Christopher Columbus?  Ah that’s better, I see a whole load of hands in the air.  Well read on because later in this edition you’ll find out why Henry was arguably more critical to discovering the Americas than Se ñ or Columbus!
